El Puerto, as it’s commonly called, is located just in front of Cádiz, offering golden sandy beaches kissed by the mixed waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. A lively harbour town, beach resort, rich legacy, and a lot of sun and fun make El Puerto de Santa María a great spot for your holiday.
According to legend, the city was founded around the year 1184 BC by the Athenian King Menestheus, just after the Trojan War. Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs occupied this area, as the reminders of the Phoenician settlement of ‘Doña Blanca’ show. Centuries later, commerce with the Americas brought new life and wealth to the city.
Perfumed by orange tree blossoms, the Old Town is adorned with Baroque architecture and cobblestone streets. Some of the most beautiful hotels and B&Bs in El Puerto de Santa María can be found in this area. The most popular beaches are La Puntilla, Valdelagrana, and La Muralla, and hotels near El Puerto beaches are a popular choice.

We came to the town from Cadiz. There is no comparison. The town is busy but not trendy as claimed in all the media. You can find a good restaurant or two if you do the legwork. The harbour is not on the sea but on the river. We didn't think it worthwhile to try the beach. Lovely town with some great beaches. Easy access to Cadiz via catamaran and Jerez by train although schedules aren´t as frequent as in some other parts of the Spanish costas. Some really good restaurants and great value. Will definitely go back again.

Beautiful building, friendly staff, large clean rooms with balcony, swimming pool and a great breakfast. Secure underground parking for my motorcycle as no on-street parking available. El Puerto de Santa Maria is a beautiful old town, plenty of sights, bars, restaurants and shops, with a vibrant evening culture. Costs 3 euros to take the waterbus over to Cadiz, marine station is 10 mins walk from the hotel. Highly recommended.

The gardens are well maintained and although small, the swimming pool was a great place to cool down. The hotel is in the perfect location for walking into town and the port. The staff were very helpful giving us a map of the area and pointing out places of interest. They also printed off the timetable for the ferries to Cadiz.
