Honolulu is a place you can make as busy or as relaxing as you want. Ample food options, beautiful beaches and incredible sunsets to ensure with friends and family. Shopping and discovering both the history and the culture of the area make for a well-rounded destination no matter your interests. Worth while exploring the island too if you have the chance. There are plenty of day tours available that take in some incredible sites up the east coast of the island and around the north shore. Definitely a destination that you can return to time and time again.

Honolulu is a big-ish city, it has a big mall, lots of tall buildings, government buildings, homeless people, etc... If you are looking for a slower more relaxed vacation with fewer people and buildings, look at the other islands, or at least don't stay in Honolulu/Waikiki. The hotel backs on to the touristy area of Waikiki so, although we weren't far from anything, we felt like we were getting away from the crowds. We loved the simpler, beachy, retro feel of the hotel. The concierge was very helpful assisting us to book a tour of Pearl Harbor.
