The area around Portomarin is very beautiful and scenic!
There's a very interesting story about the current Portomarin that would make a visitor want to go around and see the city, it's historical landmarks and surrounding areas.

A small town on the Camino de Santiago - and anyone who’s walked The Way will know what that implies. Much of the economy of places like this, especially in catering and accommodation, is geared to servicing Camino pilgrims. Consequently there are albergues and pilgrim menus (pilgrim menu norm seems to be around €14 at present, still fair value) aplenty but by 10 p.m., and outside the Camino “walking season”, lots of places are closed. So, not perhaps the ideal place for nightclubbers. Having said that we enjoyed our stay, it’s a pretty place with great views but not a great deal of history on show - the original village having been swallowed up by the creation of a dam lake. The church was rescued and moved up the hill to its present location in the town centre brick by brick. It’s interesting to be able to just see the numbers painted on the masonry that ensured every block went in the right place. One heck of a jigsaw!

Portomarin is a very beautiful tiny little town right on the Camino de Santiago. It has a few beautiful churches and the town itself is on the banks of a river which makes it very picturesque. It is quiet and small, except for the pilgrims and that makes it very quaint.

Friendly staff provided excellent communication.
Friendly staff provided excellent communication. Could speak perfect English, which is rare in the in this area. Facilities, while basic, was perfect and spotless. Had the best nights sleep in a long time. Bed was so comfortable. Bag collection service operates from here also, which was a bonus. There is a lovely bar/restaurant literally yard away that had very reasonable menu. Price was very reasonable.I was very pleased with my choice.

Portomarin was just a rip off for all the pilgrims walking the Camino. It seems as if the whole town is just there to milk as much from the tourists as possible. We went for lunch into a bar and ordered drinks, never got any tapas like the other locals sitting there. Went out for Dinner and chose the Pergrinos Menu which was horrific food! A beef stew which consisted of 3pieces of beef and some reheated old potato chips! My Bolognaise was condensed Tomato Sauce with undercooked packet Pasta. The chef should be fired for even thinking that Menu was acceptable. But it seems like they don't care because they know you're only there for 1 night! I would never return to Portomarin!
I purposefully booked a private room off of the main Camino path to get some quiet to recharge. The directions were challenging and this is part of a newer section of buildings being constructed. It was on the outskirts of Portomarin. It is located away from the downtown/restaurants/Camino. The room was large, simple and clean. Its nice that there are snacks provided (fruit, water, juice and cookies) and coffee packets. There is a microwave available but bring your own cup for the coffee as the only ones provided were plastic.
The host is very sweet. I booked all the hotel or hostels for my camino and this was the second place with a shared bathroom so I worried a bit. But the stay was really cozy and the house was very clean. The host offer guests some foods as well and it was very sweet of her. I would stay again. One thing that I didnt like was some rude guests. Idk why some people are so rude at shared houses. They may think they paid so they could over act.
Very friendly owner. He washed and dried my clothes for 8 euro and it was so nice to get them back warm and not smelling like some of the awful detergent other places often use.
The place was very clean and they had maps to show me right where to go for dinner.
It was very obvious that they care a great deal about their property and about making their customers happy.
Also the showers weee the nicest I’ve seen so far on the Camino.
The receptionist was very friendly and spoke enough English to help us check in. She also helped us carry some of our bags to our room. The room was lit and decorated very nicely and was very clean, with working heater and AC, and a nice hair dryer too. They had nice shed where we could leave our bikes overnight. The hotel is also within close walking distance to the restaurants, Cathedral, and supermarket in town.
My shared room had three beds. Very comfy bed with a cozy blanket and crisp sheets and comfortable room temperature (it was cold out but warm inside) This place felt a lot more like a hotel than a hostel because of the new design. Super clean. Excellent shower with plenty of hot water. A minute away after arriving by foot along Camino, right in front of river! There’s an excellent breakfast place two doors down.
After a long Camino walk it felt like torture to walk up the hill to this hotel but it was well worth the additional pain on my blisters. The staff was welcoming, warm and even carried my bag up the two flights of stairs to my room. She even booked me an excellent massage just one block feom the hotel. This place genuinely cares about Camino walkers. I will return here!
Excellent value for the room. Breakfast was also very good with a very good price. The selection for breakfast was just perfect for me. I was so grateful for the hotel helping me after I forgot something in my room. The hotel helped me retrieve it, sending it to me by taxi saving myself from replacing something that would have been very difficult.
Good restaurant, terrace with nice views. Very friendly and forthcoming waiter. The room was clean (see exception below).
The hostel is in 2.9 km distance from Portomarin center. Nice, that the hostel offers free of charge pick-up in the centre on the day of arrival as well as drop-off at the re-start of the Camino de Santiago the next day.
The owner was so friendly and stayed later than she should have bearing in mind that we were the only guests. She was very sociable and we had a good laugh. I recommend it if you want to break your journey up between Portomarín and palas del Rey. Excellent service.
The flat is absolutely wonderful, comfortable and equipped with everything you need. Tastefully decorated and bright is located above the supermarket. The owner is very polite and friendly. Absolutely recommended to pilgrims who stop in Portomarín.
Excellent home in quiet area of Portomarín and few minutes walk from center of town. House is amazing: extremely well furnished, decorated and maintained. Owners were very welcoming and helped us setup the mochila service too.
This was a lovely, modern hotel with comfortable rooms. I had a swollen ankle for which I needed some ice and the receptionist was able to provide me with a custom made ice pack for my injury.
Lots of restaurants nearby.
Hotel is beautiful -- modern & very clean. The spa is a real treat after a day on the Camino -- book with reception for a private 1-hour time slot (can't remember cost, but very reasonable).
The host was excellent. The hotel was beautiful in every way including a great room; bar and dining area. We sat on the patio and had a drink and the view was great.
