Charming property, full of character, very nicely decorated and in a great location. The bed was very comfortable. Jerome went out of his way to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction, and gave helpful information from restaurants to booking a taxi.

Nice historical town at the river Yonne and Canal de Nivernais. Old city center much bigger than expected. We were positively surprised that obviously the city council seems to be interested to keep pedestrian places clean - which is not always the standard in France in cities of this size.
There was a great open-air art-exhibition (July 2023) at the river bank of the Yonne.
Would come back again to visit museums and some nicely located restaurants.

Auxerre the capital of Yonne department and fourth largest...
Auxerre the capital of Yonne department and fourth largest Burgundian city lying on the banks of river Yonne 150 km South West Paris and 120 km North West Dijon. Auxerre was a flourishing Gallo-Roman centre named Autissiodorum in the first century AD and in the third century became episcopal chair, bishopric the provincial capital of the Roman Empire, receiving a cathedral in the fifth when the city walls were built by the feudal lords/counts of Burgundy. Renowned for vine cultivation and production of fine Burgundian wines including Chablis, in 1995 Auxerre was named Town of Art and History indeed evident in this medieval city with its myriad of half-timbered buildings enshrouded with French Renaissances residences.
The perfect place to stay is the Clos St Eusebe apartment within the WineMakers House in the heart of the city to explore the places of interest:
Cathedral of St Elieme (Gothic)
Abbey Saint Germain (Housing Bishops of Auxerre Tomb)
Tour de l'Horloge d'Auxerre (Clock Tower)
St Pierre en Vallee Church (Local wine growers financed)
Church of St Eusebe (Romanesque)

We loved this accommodation and this town so much we stayed an extra night. Cute exposed timber houses and so many cathedrals make this small walking town a fun place to explore. The St Germain Abbey has super old frescos and contemporary art as well. Follow the trail of Cadel Russell to see everything there is to see in this beautiful fairytale town. Stop at the Horological Tower. Make sure to get baked goods at Eric Roy. Picnic on the Yonne river. Off the beaten path, yet so close to Paris.

An interesting and friendly small city with good food, wine...
An interesting and friendly small city with good food, wine and lovely countryside close by. I would say there is enough to see and do for a stay of around 1.5 to 2 days but on the recommendation of the hotel staff and some French guests, I hired a bike on my third day and cycled 30 miles along the Canal de Nivernais and back. The city itself has some very striking architecture and plenty of restaurants and bars. The crypt below the Cathedral and the frescoes in L'Abbaye de St Germain are the main sights but it's also a good place just to amble around.
The hosts were very welcoming and the staff clearly enjoyed working at the hotel. Being a very hot day I was very grateful that the air-conditioning in my room had been turned on in anticipation of my arrival. The rooms are individually named and my room was comfortable and very well appointed. A comprehensive continental breakfast was provided in a dining room which overlooks the pretty back garden. Located just 5 minutes from the centre of town where there are numerous restaurants to suit all tastes. The hotel has extensive parking.
This hotel was in a perfect location in central Auxerre. If you are landing at CDG and are looking to immediately travel to Burgundy, I cannot recommend stopping in Auxerre and staying here more. Damien greeted us, showed us around the property, and helped bring our luggage to the third floor. He gave us great recommendations on local wines to try. His dog Cyrus is adorable too.
All in all 10/10. A wonderful start to our honeymoon.
the size, amenities, owner, location, breakfast, everything was great. best stay I had on a 2 week biking trip thru Burgundy. Hadrian was very helpful in every way, English was very good.the apartment is large and a welcome relief after 12 days in mostly small hotel rooms. 2 bedrooms and nice shower. also good secure storage for our bikes. unless you're trying to stay budget I suggest you book this place.
Cosy and comfortable apartment with good-quality facilities. We enjoyed the small backyard during breakfast and dinner. Great location! Walking distances to the centre. The host takes care of everything you want to know. He even stores some dry foods (pasta, bread and seasonings) available in case you arrive late and have no time for shopping on the first arrival. Highly recommended!
Superb appartment, spacious, stylish, and comfortable, in a part medieval building in the centre of Auxerre. We were only staying over, but it would be a great place to stay longer and could easily accommodate 2 couples by using the sofa bed, which was also very comfortable and easy to unfold. Well equipped kitchen area, which we didn't really have chance to use.
The non Hotel feel of staying in a beautiful historic house and someone's home with well proportioned rooms throughout
Damian was an excellent & attentive host along with Cyrus the friendly dog
Lovely evenings spent on garden terrace with views towards the church, as good as located in centre of town with easy free parking a 3 minute walk away
We arrived late at night at Le Maxime. Auxerre was freezing and a soft cloud of icy vapour was lifting up from La Yonne river. Imagine how warm it felt when at the reception they told us we received a free upgrade to the Hotel's suite, with a balcony on the river! Breakfast was prime quality, too. Absolutely recommended.
Great hotel in an excellent location. Room was on the small side but had everything we needed and was very clean. Fabulous view of the Abbey and town from our window. We would happily stay here again. Loved the checkin availability instead of having to wait till 4 or 5pm!
This is a charming little hotel, perfectly located to explore the beautiful old town of Auxerre. The staff were super friendly and helpful especially to our baby and dog. Breakfast was good too! The room was quiet with a big bath and comfortable bed.
Jerome was very welcoming, cheerful and available to our requests. We only stayed one night but the location, really close to the city centre, was perfect to visit Auxerre. Great breakfast with homemade products as well 😊
We did not book the room with breakfast, so at the hotel we were able to choose between 2 options of breakfast which worked well for us.
There was a small, nice and bright reading area with some magazines and books.
Lovely, spacious room and breakfast with varied options. Garden is beautiful, with view of nearby St. Eusebe. Great to have parking on site. Perfect for walking everywhere in Auxerre.
Nice hotel not too far from centre of Auxerre and close to motorways, lovely looking pool, which unfortunately we didn't have time to try, good breakfast.
