An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture
In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.
Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.
One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.
Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.
Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.
Very clean city. Lots of places to eat and chat. People were helpful and friendly. There is a lovely atmosphere in the square and we felt very safe. We watched the streets been cleaned regularly and the local police were very helpful.

Salamanca is a beautiful city with lots of fabulous buildings all within easy walking distance. It also has good restaurants (definitely try Taberna de Libreros) It can be busy when the day trippers arrive but is quieter in the evenings.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.
Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants.
It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit.
Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing.
It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment.
We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

If you want to really know Spain: Visit Salamanca.
If you want to really know Spain: Visit Salamanca. I think it is underrated for what it is. Every corner of the city will surprise you with its rich cultural heritage. Brilliantly lit at night, it is perfect for late night tours. The city is safe, people are friendly, food is simply excellent! Didnt get enough out of my visit, will go again!
Excellent location in Salamanca. Very centrally located and 10 min walk away from all of the major tourist sites and shopping areas. The staff is wonderful and makes you feel welcomed. They have a nice breakfast buffet. Also, there is a public parking garage right in front of the hotel which makes it very convenient as the hotel is in a pedestrian area of the city. Accommodations are simple but very clean. The wifi works well throughout the hotel. Definitely a value for the price.
Honestly was one of the best hotels I ever stayed (probably this says more about me than about " Eurostars Las Claras" ).
It was clean, the room on the 5th floor was quiet and big, with all the amenities that I needed. it was a pity that I stayed only for a night.
The parking was easy accessible extremely easy and enough room for our ford puma. I do advise everyone that want to go to Salamanca to stay here friendly staff as well.
The apartments are amazingly beautiful, large and functional. The hosts Eva and Javier are amazing and very helpful in providing Salamanca visitor information. The location is excellent, just a short easy walk to all Salamanca's attractions and a very convenient parking secured garage on property. This had been one of the best stays we had in Spain, don't hesitate and wait, do yourself a favor and book an apartment here!
Excellent location for exploring Old City Salamanca. The hotel is well maintained and modern. We had a room with a small balcony. Although not large enough for sitting, it was great for ventilation as we also had a window by the entry door.
The breakfast was a bit pricey for what it was but worth it so we didn't have to leave.
Staff was very friendly.
If ever in Salamanca again we woud surely stay at Hotel Rua.
A slick modern hotel right in the centre of Salamanca. Just 5-10 minute walk to the main square and cathedral. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The young guy on reception took time to explain how to get to the best photo spots. We were able to park our motorcycle in the secure basement garage onsite. The inclusive breakfast was the best we've had at an Ibis. We will use this hotel again.
Superb unfussy service from staff. central location in Salamanca but very quiet. Excellent breakfast and a very enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price. We would have liked to have stayed for longer. The weather was just right. Not too hot about 24 degrees. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. We hope to use it, or others in the group again.
Much to see and enjoy in Salamanca.
Great no fuss hotel. Cheap, good beds, nice staff!! If you come by car just enter the underground parking on the side, by ringing the bell, the reception will let you in (then go to -2 or -3, the parking spaces are not big but not smaller than the average in Spain!!). It costs €9,90 a day and we thought it was very convenient.
we love this hotel, second time staying and we are never disappointed. the rooms are big, the hotel is quiet, the gym is quite good, staff is lovely, breakfast is in a relaxing room, not a lot of options but everything is very tasty
salamanca main plaza is just outside the door and the hotel is very modern
This hotel is really central to all Salamanca has to offer - literally the other side of Plaza Mayor. The beds were very comfortable, and the AC worked great. The staff were very nice and helpful, and they let me leave my suitcases at the hotel after check out for several hours before my train left.
The staff was so grateful, specially Giancarlo from the front desk. The breakfast is so good and for a good value. In spite the fact that the hotel is almost 22 years old, the room look pretty great. Going back to Salamanca for sure that we should stay at the same hotel
A very comfortable hotel: excellent place to stay the night en route for Portugal or Southern Spain. The staff were very kind and friendly. It was easy to park in front of the hotel in the establishment car-park. The hotel is very easy to access from the motoway.
Always stay here travelling through Spain must be 20 times so that says a lot perfect position for site seeing
Car park under hotel secure
Cant say anything bad about it exceptional value for money
bar and restaurant prices very good food excellent
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the Staff could not be more helpful, there was not one thing more we would have wanted during our stay, we could not recommend Hotel Rector, Salamanca high enough. We have told all our friends.
The hotel is located at the heart of colonial Salamanca, a very impressive cultural heritage city. At short walk you have the 'Plaza Mayor', a beautiful palace, and the numerous Spanish restaurants and stores.
Everything was great! After a 3 week trip through portugal and Spain, this was our favorite. Great value, beautiful buffet breakfast, front desk staff helped tremendously, get the view room! On site parking.
It’s important to know that it takes about 2,5 hours from Madrid airport to get to Salamanca . Location was good , near great restaurants, bars and shopping .
