A family hotel in a lovely village,
A family hotel in a lovely village, in my opinion the most worthwhile place in Zagoria. We stayed at the hotel for four nights; Sofia and her two sons, Christos and Theodore were charming, made us feel at home. Spacious rooms, excellent service, generous breakfast. The hotel also has an Italian restaurant with a selection of excellent and delicious dishes. And most importantly, it's their humanity and caring. warmly recommended!AAnonymousIsrael - 10Scored 10
Unforgettable 5 days in Monodendri.
Unforgettable 5 days in Monodendri. On first day, we had a hike from the Village of Vicos, which is a few kilometers down from Monodendri, to the villages of Koukouli and Kipoi, over beautiful stone bridges. The next day we hiked to Lake Drakolimni. On the third day, we visited the Voidomatis River and the beautiful villages of Papingo and Mikro Papingo, and bathed in natural stone baths. Monodendri is an excellent choice for a base if you are visiting Zagori. Village is small and calm, tavernas with excellent food. Monodendri is located in central Zagori. A couple of interesting places to visit nearby: Monastery of Agia Paraskevi (at the outskirts of the village accessible on foot), and Stone Forest ( >1-hour hiking or 20 min drive). Proximity to Papigo and Aristi (starting point for rafting at Voidomatis River). Short-distance drives to visit characteristic stone arch bridges in the area.

A beautiful and well preserved village, in an area of great natural beauty. The village has some nice restaurants and coffee shops, while the Rizarios Foundation organises interesting exhibitions. It is a good starting point for exploring the area, especially if you have a car with you. Walks from the village to the viewing point or down to the river are very good as well. Main thing: if you want to walk to the viewing point first find the old square with the platanos tree, the trail starts there and is also marked from the square (blue trail). It is also a good spot to leave your car and start a hiking holiday. It is not as romantic but cheaper than Papingo. We also loved the restaurant opposite the hotel (Dionysos restaurant), where we felt at home very quickly and where the offer good local food at reasonable prices.

Monodendri is a very nice village in the heart of Zagorochoria. There are a couple of very nice taverns in the central square of the village with nice food. Close to the central square also start two hiking trails: the one that crosses the Vikos Gorge and the trail to the neighboring village of Vitsa. On the main road there is a coffeeshop that serves great coffee.

We chose Monodendri because it was a bit larger town in a good location for exploring the area. There are several hotel choices in the region, but this one must top the list!

The house has all necessary facilities for a comfortable stay, we enjoyed the fireplace every evening. The hosts are amazing! We were greeted with homemade pies, jams and other local products for a breakfast, the recommendations for places to visit and to eat were great! Thank you very much!

We hiked the Vikos Gorge, which is a short walk from the hotel. The brothers explained the route and one came to pick us up when we arrived a Vykos at the other end (40 euros, same as a taxi). We enjoyed our view from the room. Monodendri is extremely picturesque, especially at the end of October. Its also chilly at night, so we were glad to have the heat.
