Our hostess Gelé was very personable and warm. Very little English-speaking was done in Arenas de cabrales and it was the same at the pension. But we wanted for nothing. The community kitchen allows you to keep a low food budget in a well stocked space. I shared a picture of the community space. Rooms on the river side allowed us to listen to the river and it was the best night of sleep our entire trip. I shared a photo from our window.

David was a very nice host. The location is beautiful and peaceful. It is also a 5 minute walk into the centre of Arenas so well located. The breakfast was simple, ample and good value. Delicious coffee.

I have to say that the staff in Hostal Poncebos went above and beyond to accomodate my needs. I came to stay for 1 night to start the Cares trail in the early morning and asked if they had a room available after 1 day, on my return from Cain and they had one just by chances, because next day was a carrera Traveserina Picos de Europa and everything was supposed to be fully booked. As I left very early, I didn't have a chance to have a breakfast and when I returned 1 day after from Cain that was still early in the day, they let me have a breakfast without extra fee to compensate the one I missed. I won't probably repeat the Cares trail in a long time but this experience made me feel very welcomed. My heart stays in Asturias.
