Touristy town with beautiful sandy beaches and a refreshing breeze. The Slumber Lodge is in a great location directly across from the beach. Everything is in close proximity and is very walkable. Check out Gyro Park (host to numerous events), the Farmers' Market and all the wonderful shopping and dining experiences. For some great Mexican food and atmosphere we recommend Tequilla Vallarta on Main Street. We look forward to our next visit!!!
Despite a disappointing hotel we stayed in, we thoroughly enjoyed renting e-bikes and traveling the KVR for 6 hours. Visited the Abandoned Rail Brewing Co. and enjoyed a cold beer after a long and hot ride. Also try the Neighbourhood Brewing pub in town for great food! It was Peach Fest weekend, so the free music concert in the park was nice on a warm, breezy evening.
This is an absolutely gorgeous vacation place , love it and we go back every summer … I specially like going during their Peach Frstival, lots of activities and shows to see …. My favourite are the free night concerts, it’s a great place to enjoyed with friends and family ( even the teens/ young adults like it) Everything is close by so you can walk everywhere, the beach and beautiful lake just steps away from most motels …. It’s a magnificent place to visit Lots of great dinner options and most motels units have a little kitchen, you can save by cooking breakfast and lunch , snacks, drinks etc . WE LOVE PENTICTON 🥰🥰🥰
Just went there to explore some of the back roads around Penticton- OK Falls-Oliver Osoyoos area. I didn’t go there for the beaches or night life. BTW if you need emergency care for any reason don’t waste your time with walk in Clinics. Go straight to Hospital Emergency. At least you are dealing with professionals.
There are some gorgeous parts on the edges of Penticton and the outskirts, like right down by the water, around Skaha, and Naramata. Inner Penticton offers lots of excellent and unique shopping opportunities. There are many walking and hiking opportunities, and their museum (in the Library) is among the best I've ever visited. However, there is a considerable problem with the homeless population which grows and grows. I'm concerned for them, clueless as to how to help, but also I feel uncomfortable and (at times) unsafe as I'm informed that the drug problem plays a part, and drugs make people unpredictable.
We came for medical reasons, and on the way between Summerland and Penticton there was a fatality on the highway which caused us to detour, taking a dirt FSR for 90 minutes. Thank you Google!! No one was out there to direct anyone. Once in our hotel in Penticton, we had a drink and toasted the poor person who passed . But then as we tried to head home the next day, another fatality happened on the same stretch of road and so we booked into a different hotel, this one with an outdoor heated pool. We made the most of a horrible situation, once more toasting the poor person that passed. BUT...locals say this is a common experience. Besides being horrifically sad, it's a real deterrent for us as tourists. No one wants to feel trapped or worse endangered as we drive that stretch of road into and out of Penticton. Maybe more policing that strip would slow these people down? Stricter road speeds? Hopefully you can come up with some solutions. We are worried about having to return for more medical appointments. Esp when winter comes and that FSR gets worse- there were some pretty dicey stretches of very narrow road or potholed places.
