The Back o' Bourke centre (Bourke's tourist information centre), is a tourist attraction in itself and takes a long time to experience in full. I videoed a lot of it, so I could spend minimal time there, and read everything I wanted to read later. There are still videos and sound recordings presented at the centre to listen to. The actual Bourke, outside the tourist information centre is quite a small town with some beautiful old buildings, but not a lot in the way of facilities, (but probably all most tourists need). There are some interesting things like the rebuilt (i.e. replica) wharf, the old bridge over the Darling at North Bourke, Fred Hollows grave at the cemetery, which is very unusual - more like a sculpture than a grave, and some natural wonders you have to travel some distance out of town to see.

Bourke is a bit rough at night time - take care when walking because you get approached by people asking for money or cigarettes - other than that we visited the pub at Porte Bourke where we saw the Mathildas playing while we were eating a very good chicken schnitty acompanied by some good coldies - that was a nice evening

Bourke is a town with lots of character and history.

Bourke is a town with lots of character and history. I loved the walk along the river, full of information as a river town, and it's rich Indigenous history. It was a quick visit for me, being only an overnight stay, next time I am passing through I will definitely be staying a few days to learn and feel more of this beautiful outback town.

Place is a little run down not many houses are neat most occupants are not proud of their town otherwise they would look after it better, would not recommend walking a night from restaurant / club back to you stay

Interesting history. Town seems to be below par.

Interesting history. Town seems to be below par. Most of the shops in the main shopping strip are closed. nothing much open at night for dining over the weekend we were there. Very little traffic so easy to get around. For us it was really only a place to overnight and do nothing much for a couple of days.'

The motel is very centrally located and within walking distance of Bourke's main attractions and dining venues. It is situated behind the levee bank with a large and beautiful garden. The buildings are all old picturesque Bourke buidlings which have been repurposed as a motel. We were particularly grateful that we were able to stay a day earlier than planned because floods had changed our itinerary

The property has potential and the grounds could look amazing with a lot of work. The property was close to the river and walking track. It appears as though the Bourke council are doing a lot of improvements along the river bank precinct which will be beneficial for tourists in the future.

The room was big, the bathroom was newly renovated and the heating was great. We had dinner at the hotel which is run by the property and the meals were great. The amenities for the bathroom were great. There was a nice verandah out the front as you walked up the stairs.

The Major Mitchell Motel was well located, a short walk from the centre of Bourke. The room was clean and comfortable and the owners helpful, and working hard to make their accommodation even better, for some things need sprucing up.

Great location next to the Port of Bourke, ideal for walks along the river and short walk to really good country pub just up the road. Each room is individual and use the old buildings to good effect.
