Hostal Siglo XIX, hotel in Cacabelos

Hostal Siglo XIX has a shared lounge, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Cacabelos. The property is non-smoking throughout and is located 12 miles from Las Médulas Roman Mines.

After walking 45kms on the Camino, I needed a quiet place to sleep. And I got that. I’ve stayed here before and liked it each time. This time was even better. It seemed to be renovated and the rooms were improved but without spoiling the charm. The woman who checked me in and the man who helped with my breakfast were both very kind and professional. I highly recommend this hotel.

AS Hoteles Ponferrada, hotel in Cacabelos

AS Hoteles Ponferrada is located on the A6 motorway connecting Madrid to A Coruña, about 0.6 mi past the exit for Ponferrada Norte-Villablino. It offers elegant, air-conditioned accommodations.

This is a kind of road motel, obviously much better than the typical road motels in Canada or USA, but still just a road motel. If you are looking for a place to spend a night on route, it is good enough.

Cacabelos is a medieval village, surrounded by wineries. It is situated some 7 kms from Ponferrada and exactly on the pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela. The village offers a lot of facilities, shops etc. I stayed in Hotel Villa de Cacabelos. Good !

If you’re looking for an authentic, off the beaten travel...

If you’re looking for an authentic, off the beaten travel destination and you like food, history and nature, PLEASE go to El Bierzo. It’s a gorgeous region with so much to offer – fantastic hiking, picturesque little towns, incredible historical sites, amazing food (the cured meats and vegetables – think roasted red peppers – are especially delicious) and really, really good wines. There are fairly good services and you’ll be able to find comfortable, pleasant hotels, really great restaurants and everything else you need but it hasn’t really been “discovered” which means it’s still pretty cheap. There are plenty of wineries to visit and many of them offer lodging, plus there are sooo many incredible historic sites to visit, palaces and Templar castles and prehistoric ruins and Roman gold mines…

Hotel Villa de Cacabelos is an excellent hotel with very nice, clean rooms. They also serve breakfast etc. Nearby are shops and other facilities like a medical center. The hotel is on the Camino de Santiago. Television with many channels in all languages. Electric window blinds. Very good WIFI. Friendly, helpful staff. Cacabelos is a medieval village, less touristic than e.g. Villafranca. Pilgrims might stay a while, rest, and then move on to Galicia.

Charming, comfortable and unique hotel experience. The room was on the top floor under the roof of the historic building with lovely antique furnishings, a large bathroom with two person jacuzzi and a cozy sitting area. The hotel itself is a beautiful old stone and wood building that was once a pilgrim hospital. The on site restaurant was delicious and the small store selling local wines, gift items and local crafts was delightful.

I hadn’t planned on staying in town but needed a place suddenly… this turned out to be one of the best hostels I stayed at on the entire Camino! staff was friendly, and hard working. room was clean, and I happened to have no other people in mine (4 Bds) so I effectively got a hotel experience for only $20. nice modern shower, modern tv, comfortable bed, secure lockers/facility, and air conditioning!

Nicely renovated hotel close to everything and yet still very quiet and peaceful. The woman at the front desk was 100% friendly and helpful throughout my stay. (Note to management - give her a pay raise. Good staff are the best advertising). The hotel has an elevator.

Underground parking, secure for motorcycle. A good number of places to eat due to the Camino. The town was quite sweet and pleasant. Hotel staff very nice, especially as we arrived early because we wanted to have lunch in the town. Breakfast okay for €6.50

We booked for the Hostal but at check-in were upgraded to a room in the Monclea without extra charges. The Monclea is superb rustic style luxury hotel with all amenities (restaurant, bar, shop selling local products). It was a fabulous.
