Portbou is unique. Very small, old, Spanish town - with af small beach - and - surrounded - by the Pyrenees. No matter is you want to go north - towards France - or south - towards Spain - it's uphill the Pyrenees. Hostal Juventus is value for money.

Right next to the beach (sea view from some of the rooms), 5 minutes walk from the train station, a restaurant downstairs (and several more on the same block). Sparkling clean, and the interior was refurbished in good taste (lovely photos of local views) and with thoughtful little extras like washbasins in the rooms, reading lamps and kettles with tea and coffee. Definitely one of the best hostels I’ve stayed.
